Eurovision nightGot myself some ice cream and will be making myself compfy on the sofa so I'm ready for the big, glittery, horrible music, camp, pointless politics, drama that is eurovision. It never disappoints me.

Sadly I will be alone for this one. Matt had to do a concert he didn't want to do, so I will be live tweeting (humonlazydiva) my impression of the whole shebang.

The Echo chamber dilemmaThe promise of the Internet was that unlimited information and experiences would draw us together. But instead it seems to have driven us apart.
For years I've observed this behavior but haven't been able to vocalize it correctly. Originally I called the behavior of collective opinions as "the hive mentality" of the Internet. But that wasn't exactly right and I often got called out on it. The most prominent example was when I made a comic about a guy disagreeing with opinions and being shouted at till he remained quiet, eventually fading into the background with everyone else. The consensus of that comic was that if you disagree with someone you aren't bullied into not speaking, but instead are free to go someplace else where people who do agree with you exist. And you know what? That wasn't what i was trying to convey, but is sadly true. The Internet is not a hive mind. It's many tiny pocket echo chambers of mutual agreements.
And this is becoming a growing problem, I think, because n

For many of us, the Christmas Season is a special time. For a few days each year (and for reasons few people even bother to remember) much of the world finds itself switching gears, dusting off old decorations, and mulling over how it might be nice to not be at each other's throats anymore. And while these joint efforts towards promoting peace and goodwill to all mankind usually end up amplifying old annoyances from family and friends, a lot could still be said about how the seasons inspire any kind of mandatory loving kindness in the first place.

So as we stand there, waiting patiently for the queue to budge at the mall check out counter, let us remember to never forget. And with that note (and the groundbreaking revelation that SANTA CLAUS IS NOT REAL, say leading forensic archeologists) and from all of us here at Mangaholix, we wish you good health, good fortune, and a holiday season that's a little less than real life and more like a Hallmark greeting card.
